WIOA Changes & Action Alert

Dear Peckham team members,
A special panel of the Department of Labor is talking about ways to change the AbilityOne program. Some of these changes could mean that someday Peckham could no longer offer jobs in AbilityOne contracts. This means jobs in:

  • NPIC
  • OCIE
  • Apparel
  • USDA
  • DLA
If these changes are approved, you may have to find jobs with other employers. These changes could take time. But we want to keep you informed. No one is losing their jobs today, or anytime soon. We have not lost any of our current contracts.
If the changes suggested by the special panel go through, it would be several months or years before we would see jobs go away.
However, the panel is working on writing its recommendations NOW. This means that NOW is the time for your voice to be heard.

This panel has not talked to many people with disabilities who work on AbilityOne contracts. We think that’s wrong –this panel needs to hear from you. You work on these contracts – they need to know what these jobs mean to you.
Your voice needs to be heard. You can submit an email “Action Alert” by clicking on the links below. Each one sends a different email message to the panel members. The message is already written - all you have to do is enter your name, email and address.
The panel meets again on August 10 – so we need to send out Action Alerts this week!
It only takes a minute, but it could make a BIG difference and let us keep providing AbilityOne jobs to people with disabilities.

  1. Nothing About Us Without Us – tell the panel that they should keep all options for jobs for people with disabilities.
  2. Protect AbilityOne Program – tell the panel that AbilityOne jobs matter.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Ann Gillmore at agillmore@peckham.org, or (517) 316-4443.
Nothing about us without us.  Submit your Action Alert by August 10th!
